Every time I explore Australia, I fall more and more in love with it.

I’ve been to Victoria a few times but this time around we wanted to do a road  trip. There is so much to see in this beautiful state.. surf beaches, national parks, wineries and you may be familiar with the famous Great Ocean Road home of the Twelve Apostles.

In my opinion, the best way to explore Australia is by van. We rented Mabel a Retro RV located in Torquay. She is a 1973 Bay Window Kombi modified motorhome with a manual transmission and has everything you need to have a comfortable road trip (the bed is SO comfortable). Alex and I still can’t get over how amazing this RV is, it was an experience in itself..So unique and definitely a head turner! We had so many people stop us to take photos and chat about their old Kombi from back in the day. We loved it.

Our first destination was Wilsons Promontory National Park located on a peninsula southeast of Melbourne. I was actually shocked when I saw the beaches here, I did not expect Victoria to have pristine beaches with crystal clear waters. Squeaky Beach and Fairy Cove were my two favourite spots to explore. Tidal River is the main area with visitors centre, general store, coffee and a camping area (make sure to book early). Wilsons Prom is known for the abundant of wildlife which we were lucky to see – seals, stingrays, wombats and kangaroos. It’s also known for its rugged mountains which makes for a great destination if you are a hiker. We did the Mt. Oberon summit walk (6.8km return) for sunset which I highly recommend.

If you do plan to head here — Make sure to fill up fuel before heading into the national park as there isn’t a station.

The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage listed 240-kilometre stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Allansford — built by returned service men between 1919-1932. It gets really exciting once you hit the famous GOR sign – don’t forget to snap a pic! The entire drive is so picturesque and you’ll be stopping every few kms. It’s so fun to explore and check out all the spots. A few musts are Bells Beach, 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, Apollo Bay, Lorne, Great Otway National Park, Port Campbell, London Arch & the Grotto. You should try the Famous scallop pie ($12 – insane but worth it) at Apollo Bay Bakery and Pit Stop in Lorne – delicious American style food with the company of cockatoos.

The Great Otway National Park stretches from Torquay along the Great Ocean Road and up through the hinterland. I love this part of Australia because you get an abundance of nature. You will be treated with beautiful rugged coastline alongside breathtaking national parks filled with mountains, waterfalls, wildlife, massive forest trees all within an hour of each other. It’s actually insane!

Our last night in Victoria was spent it in the Melbourne CBD at Hotel NO.  1970’s airstream trailers perched on the roof in the middle of the city.. something you don’t experience everyday. Everything about this stay is an experience. It’s like an adventure and you have to find them and figure out how to get in. You will be given a digital key which is something I’ve never experience before – so neat!  I don’t want to give too much away but I highly recommend. It was an amazing way to end our amazing trip!
