TOP 10 INSTA-WORTHY PLACES ON MAGNETIC ISLAND

Geoffrey Bay

Geoffrey Bay is Located in Arcadia and is one of the islands biggest beaches. There are beautiful sets of palm trees along the beach, picturesque granite boulders, blue pristine water and it's home to the famous friendly resident rock wallabies. You can hand feed the wallabies near the old barge jetty anytime of the day but the peak time is dusk. I recommend getting some fresh fruit from the shops (they love apples) or you can buy some feed at the news agency.

Hawkings Point

By far the best spot to watch sunrise/sunset on the island. It's a really nice hike with a rewarding views of Picnic & Nelly bay when you reach the top.

How to get here? The start of the hike is located on the eastern end of Picnic Street in Picnic Bay. There is a sign from the main road that says 'Walking Track'.

The forts walk is the most popular walk on the island for good reasons! Incredible history, amazing views but one of my favourite parts... the koalas! There is a very high change you will see a wild koala on the track. I recommend asking people coming back from the walk if they've seen koalas but keep looking up because they are there looking at you! If you're having troubles spotting them, there is a track that branches off the main one (roughly 900 meters from the start) where I've spotted a few in the past.

Forts Walk | Koalas

This spot is very hidden and only known to the locals (& now you). Drive to the end of Olympus Crescent, you will probably think you're going the wrong way. Park near the end of the road sign, follow the path on the right and you'll find a beautiful view of Maggie that many people don't get to see!

Olympus Crescent

Located on the sheltered northside of the island, Horseshoe Bay is one of the busiest spots on the island. This is where you'll find watersports, cafes, accomodations, tavern and a koala park. With palm trees, a 3k stretch of clean beach and pristine turquoise water this area makes for great photos!

Horseshoe Bay

My favourite lookout on the island is Arthur Bay Lookout. It isn't the easiest to get to but its well worth it! The easiest way to get here is park up at the forts walk car park and follow the road down to Arthur Bay. Before you reach this lookout, you will come across a path to the beach and different lookout so don't mistake them. They recently closed this road off due to the road being very unroadworthy. The pot holes on this road are huge, you can lay down in them.

Radical Bay & Balding Bay

There a two ways to get to this remote location but the easiest way is from the eastern side of Horseshoe Bay Beach. It's a 6km return walk, although it is relatively easy, make sure to bring water because it gets hot! It's a beautiful unspoilt spot and it's likely that you'll have this beach to yourself. There's transparent water, massive boulders, wildlife and well positioned palm trees. Make sure to bring your swimmers because the water is beautiful!

With tall palms and BBQ's, this is a beautiful relaxed spot to have a picnic looking out over Cleveland bay.

Nelly Bay Esplanade

It get's really hot on Maggie so it's always a good idea to book somewhere with good aircon. Whilst exploring the island all day, hiking and baking in the sun, there is nothing better than going back to your stay to relax. The Maggie A-frame is an affordable option near Horseshoe Bay and the cutest picturesque airbnb on the island! If you find that the airbnb is booked out, have a look at their sister option, Maggie Studio..it's just as cute!

Cockle Bay | S.S City of Adelaide Wreck

On the way to West Point, turn off to Cockle Bay. I recommend coming here on high tide, it is much prettier especially if you are using a drone. The S.S City of Adelaide wreck is so unique and beautiful it has mangroves growing out of it. If you are here for low tide, you can actually walk out to the S.S City of Adelaide Wreck as it's only 300 meters off-shore.
